I kayaked down the Oswego River yesterday. I used to do the Oswego a lot in the 1970’s, so I was shocked to see how the wider areas (and even next to the the banks on the narrow areas) are overtaken by Zizania aquatica. I did not take photos in the heavier sections because I had to fight my way through the vast quantities of them. The river even disappears in spots, and you can tell others kept getting lost in the maze.

It really is a sad thing to see how the river in that section has changed. I suppose it will still be relatively open earlier in the season, but wow, it’s crazy in there now.

There is a large wild rice meadow along Maurice River Bluffs and it grows in the ditches along the entrance road to the trailer park along the river that my wife grew up in and her mother still lives in.fast running little ditches that drain the swamp and head down into the Maurice. Also a lot of rice up the Manumuskin tidal portion as well.
