It rained last Sunday but i decided to go to a place that i have not been to since the late 70's, on the way to Penn Place and while on Sooy Place Road and Powell Place Road i took my first pic of the day.
While on the way to Penn Place i then decided to go to Harrisville Lake around the john to look for any remnants of the Wading River Forge and Slitting Mill, it started to rain real hard, i then proceeded to stage road to view the site of where French's Tavern or the Red Tavern was located, here is the site. The rain had stopped when i arrived here.
Time now to go to Penn Place, going past Oswego Lake i took the next pic on the right hand side of Jenkins Road of this foundation.
I then proceeded across the road taking the next two pics. Here is the first pic.
A second pic of the area.
I left the area arriving shortly at Penn Place, taking the following pics. First is of a mound area.
Then i found this old brick and stone in the area.
One more pic, a nice cellar hole is hidden in there.
I then left the area and went to Bear Swamp Hill, taking this photo of the outhouse area.
A pic of the tower site.
Then i left for Spring Hill, a view of the crest.
A view of Bear Swamp Hill in the far distance.
I then decided to call it a day, but on Chatsworth Road i came upon this.
Another Tuckerton Road ?
I went to the Tabernacle Town Hall calling George (Largo) asking him if he wanted to meet me at the Pic for some refresments, we met about a half hour later, he showed me alot of great photos he had, we chatted up about the pines, then it was time to go home, of course i bought 25 smoker wings to eat when i arrived home.
All in all it was raining alot that day, i had to constantly wipe the camera lens off, but it was another great day in the pines. The sand roads were not in that bad of a shape either.
