The sand in front of the pump caught several this year. It must be the best camping trip ever in this heat.

They were next to a pump and were not present. There were other campers there and I could not pull them out.
Seems very strange the state did not improve the road to that area. I drove down to High Crossing from Carranza Road yesterday and found that the road had been improved/ graveled from the asphalt all the way to the old crossing, and beyond in many spots. You would think similar would have been done to at least the campsite area, and maybe the meadow.
Anyone remember exactly when the tracks were removed at High Crossing? I think it was late 1999. I recall getting my 1991 Buick stuck on them in late summer of 1999, after driving around post an evening spent at Apple Pie Hill Lookout. I went through there probably 4 months later, and I think the tracks had been removed and the crossing lowered. Before yesterday, I was last there in October of 2005, I think. I don't remember any of the gravel or other road improvements, but it was also nice.

High Crossing was leveled late in 1999 so the FFS could get to a fire at Quarter Mile. They also bulldozed the road south of the tracks and made several new ones circling the fire creating the Q Mile.
