With the Wal Mart, cookie cutter housing developments and 'smart growth' going on all around, I thought I would share two videos that I recently watched. This might be absolutely boring to some of you but for me and perhaps some others it might be useful to digest. Some of the points brought up are exactly some of my problems with Wal Mart and 'developers' and even more worrisome is the official planning adopted in New Jersey that you have seen in use on all the major roads through the state.
The first is a 20+ minute video from TED by Howard Kunstler (he swears a bit but he is funny)
This second one is old and longer and you have to follow the parts through the link. Although dated, it is an excellent analysis and more detailed than the one above and has many excellent points to keep in mind when discussing development.
