My son and I were traveling south on Carranza Rd. from Tabernacle mid-afternoon today -- a biker and his gal had just pulled over ahead of us at the bridge in Friendship (I had been following them at about a half-mile's distance); the couple waved for me to stop at the bridge. The biker pointed out a small brush fire about 30 yards from the bridge (on the northwest side). I reported the fire. The flame had extinguished itself by the time the firetrucks and state police arrived, but what's most disconcerting is, according to the firemen, there was at least one other fire set in the area, and it was reported only a half-hour before I called for this one. The other fire was set about four or five miles to the south of Friendship.
Even without considering the dry conditions and today's breeze, it's rather frightening to think that people are out there intentionally starting fires.
