My son and I were traveling south on Carranza Rd. from Tabernacle mid-afternoon today -- a biker and his gal had just pulled over ahead of us at the bridge in Friendship (I had been following them at about a half-mile's distance); the couple waved for me to stop at the bridge. The biker pointed out a small brush fire about 30 yards from the bridge (on the northwest side). I reported the fire. The flame had extinguished itself by the time the firetrucks and state police arrived, but what's most disconcerting is, according to the firemen, there was at least one other fire set in the area, and it was reported only a half-hour before I called for this one. The other fire was set about four or five miles to the south of Friendship.

Even without considering the dry conditions and today's breeze, it's rather frightening to think that people are out there intentionally starting fires.

May be the same person or persons who started the one near Wescoat Bogs recently. I wonder where the other one was? It seems like they are starting them in remote places where most likely nobody or property will not be hurt. Seems odd.

Five mile south is exactly at Washington. Four miles would be slightly more remote. Again, not near anyone for the most part.

This is someone who needs to be caught.

That's why I posted the info here. When I arrived at the bridge, the fire obviously had just been set. As a matter of fact, the biker saw somebody moving away from the area as he approached from the distance, but didn't get any kind of ID. After the fact, I guess it would have made sense to pay attention to who's in front -- but not knowing something was up, he made no mental note of what he was seeing. Anyway, if I only missed seeing the crime by a few moments, it doesn't hurt to mention to keep our eyes open.
