This article appeared in the Press of Atlantic City today discussing proposed changes to the Pinelands land map in sections of Atlantic and Cumberland counties. Under the new map sections of Atlantic County which are presently either Rural Development or Regional Growth would become newly designated Forest areas, with restricted growth. Over in Cumberland an agricultural area would be added along with a newly designated forest area.
Personally, this directly impacts me as I would be switching to a forest area from regional development. Any preservation especially in this area is good if you ask me... as it is most of the land surrounding me is already nature preserve and green acres. There is of course opposition, even from a neighbor on there... but that’s going to be expected when you have a change in land use, and somebody wants to sell. And as far as those who want development and question preserving this areas… that map still has plenty of “orange” and “yellow” on it (especially EHT). We don’t need it out here. These woods are an expansive wilderness and a treasure in a rapidly growing county. Once it's gone, it's gone.
