I wonder if this isn't a more dignified fate than other landmarks have suffered when abandoned, slowly decaying into a pile of debris or succumbing to an arsonist's match.

Not a bad point, Still and all, man builds, man destroys. In the end, just a building anyway.
Good thing though... Pastore Orchards did wind up buying it as they farmed the back section, two of their properties border it, and they already have irrigation there. So in the end it will nurture growth, and people will enjoy the fruit so to speak.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust if you will.
