Thanks alot! I have had so much misinformation coming at me it's unreal.I have heard twice now that Union lake dam has busted.I heard my community of Laurel lake is being evacuated and had to call the fire hall to find out it was BS.I have heard several lakes have given out that haven't.I sit 40 ft above sea level.Union lake spillway is 25 ft above sea level. There is no reason for me to have to go anywhere.by the time that water hits the lower maurice and spreads out (the maurice river and salt marsh opposite me is over a half mile wide) the wave coming down river will have turned into just fast rising water and unless I'm not versed in physics it will not top elevations above mean union lake level.I have had panicing people screaming questions at me all day.People who are now aware of local geography, topography and physics.people that have lived next to union lake and the maurice river their whole lives.I am also looked upon as a police scanner besides a physics and geography Phd. I am supposed to know what roads are closed in areas I am nowhere near,a psychic because I am supposed to know what dams are going to break and when.Oh you get the picture.I have had a hard time staying sane today with so much madness around me.Has it occured to anyone that none of those lakes should be there anyway? When you unnaturally hold back large volumes of water at 8lbs a gallon against gravity by manmade constructions you are asking for trouble eventually.Perhaps this last quake weakened all the dams and bridges?I have been trying to get news on philly tv news stations. There is plenty of flood news to be had but it was all about Philly. Why should they care about south jersey unless thousands of shoobies are trapped here by our bad weather?Even the cumberland county local tv station was more interested in social programs today then flood problems. This is the first accurate report I've heard all day. Thanks again,
Al

I know that area - wow, what a mess.

Al, that was exactly my first thought as well. The dams and lakes are the problem. But you could probably say the same thing about all the problems related to Irene. If the power poles weren't there, we would not have an electric outage. If the towns weren't there, then they wouldn't be flooded.

Nature really has no mercy for the works of man.

I guess the lakes were originally created for grist mills but they are not utilized for electricity today. They are cool recreationally but they are a hazard.I see your point though.I am not a dam fan because of all the wild rivers that have been destroyed by them.If you want lakes go to country thats been glaciated or find a beaver pond but I suppose their here to stay.
I just heard a news reporter state that all the dams above and below union lake have been declared safe. Please tell me where there is a dam below Union Lake?On the maurice river of course, not the tributaries.I am clueless???
