It was on the news the day before yesterday that people were calling in fire reports and they could not find any. It turned out to be the pollen blowing off the pine trees. Last year was really bad this time of year, and it apparently is going to be again this year.

Well, I did not see it, I was told by a friend that he saw it on the news. There was a man shaking a tree and the pollen was coming off it.

I was looking at a pollen report yesterday and it said the predominant varieties at the moment are from maple and cedar trees. I was thinkng that it seemed kind of early for this area.

I can vouch for the pollen induced fire calls. We did a prescribed burn here at Wells Mills on Wednesday. While we were standing around the trucks with the state guys waiting for the last few staff to show up we were getting a kick out of listening to all the chatter on the state radios regarding the calls that turned out to be pollen related. At the same time, we observed the thick plumes of pollen blowing out of the red cedars next to the nature center with each gust of wind. I could see how someone with little knowledge of the outdoors might have been alarmed. After a while of working with the public, nothing really surprises you.

That's really interesting. Yesterday I felt like I had a bad cold, but I wondered if maybe it was an allergic reaction. There are lots of cedars around my place, so now I'm thinking I might have an issue with their pollen...

I have been having problems with my right ear, with a stuffy feeling ear, not much pain. I have been sneezing alot too with some congestion. It's not a cold though, but I did have a cold a couple of weeks ago.
I did the whole peroxide in the ear thing, doesn't help. It's probably allergies.
Some trees are already blooming, a few even have leaves, isn't this kinda early?
I guess we'll start seeing "candles" on the pines in a couple of weeks.
I guess with the extremely warm winter and more warm weather one cant be suprised. Also got attacked by some pine flies when I was hiking in Westhampton on Thursday.:bs:

I believe they recommend not to do that anymore. When the chemical is gone all it leaves is water, which is what you don't want in there.

Did you know Hydrogen Peroxide is used in glow sticks and for dying hair? One more reason to not stick it in your ear.

Mr doctor still says to do that. It helps with ear wax blockage, but not fluid in the ears. So far it seems a combination of Claritan D and Tussin (cough syrup) seems to keep it from getting worse. I dont have pain or fever, so I don't think its an ear infection.

This morning I noticed there was a light coating of green dust on my windshield, like pine pollen. I'm guessing it's from cedars though? The pollen forecast says Maple, Cedar and Juniper are predominant in our area at the moment. I know that pitch pine usually comes later in the spring.

Don't the pines peak in May when the candles (flowers) are present? So far I haven't seen any candles on the pines here.
I think the pollen is from the dedicuous trees which have been budding.
