Back in the 80's I used to go to an outdoor shooting range @ Murphy's pit. I remember driving through a dirt road right next to the pit and a lot of dead trees and at the end was a range. Does anyone know if it's still there? I was around 12 yrs old last time i was there so it is a little foggy now.

I had an incident at the stump dump years ago. I was in my Land Cruiser with some friends and we were driving around in that area. We visited the stump dump and then headed to the power lines. A truck with power line workers stopped us and we were informed that their supervisor was at that very moment calling the cops on us. They were giving us a heads up so we could get out of there. I was slow doing so and 3 Medford cops arrive along with the power line supervisor. He was claiming I had drove under the power line tower and I may be the person responsible for damaging it in the past. For some reason he failed to realize there was snow on the ground and I pointed that out to the police. I said I would take the rap if my tire tracks matched which obviously they didn't. I had really odd tires at the time that very few vehicles had. I called them french fry tires because the tread looked like french fries. After warning me that if there was any damage in the future they would come after me, they then let us go. The men who warned us stayed around and asked how I made out. I could tell they did not like the supervisor.

I remember shooting out back of Murphy's in the early '80's. It was never an official range, just a place to shoot while the guys up front road their bikes and some played in that one big mud hole with their lifted trucks. That's when Murphy's Pit used to be fun!
