In the news
Holly Ridge lies within the Cumberland Forest, which is known for being one of the largest, unfragmented tracts of forest and unspoiled wetlands in South Jersey. It is also in Watershed Management Area (WMA) 17, which has been identified by the draft State Water Supply Plan (to be released this August) as the most-stressed of all watersheds in NJ.
One of the reasons why the state clipped this site out of future sewer service in the first place was because, under the State Water Quality
Management Rules, documented threatened and endangered species habitat must be removed. Our state biologists have analyzed this site extensively and found that it is indeed critical habitat for a host of protected species.
