There's something kind of ironic about all that. They're going to spray 40 acres with poison, then build new runways and terminal buildings... All as part of a plan to protect the environment!

Pines; Bamber area
Thanks for posting this one Guy. This plant has had me puzzled for a year now. It is taking over the open fields at Dover Forge and many other sites in and around Bamber. It is startling how fast it has grown and crowded out everything else. In particular it likes firebreaks and roadsides. I could not identify it because its not native, therefore not in the books I have. Duh!

Very dissapointing. I'd love to have the pines win out in the end. Only time will tell. Purple loosestrife has also gained a hold in Dover Forge. I don't think trying to wipe it out is the answer. I think whatever will grow there will, regardless of what we do. The pines eventually will adapt and change, its inevitable.

Yeah... and the interesting thing is that these (and the area around an airport runway) have all been altered by man. So instead of nature going out of control it's just reacting to a change we made. I agree completely: "The pines eventually will adapt and change, its inevitable."
