The Department of Environmental Protection announced today3/19/12 that it has purchased two forested pieces of land in Southern Ocean County through the Green Acres program as a way to help preserve land in the Barnegat Bay watershed.
The two tracts - 249 acres in Eagleswood Township and 136 acres in Stafford Township – are forested with pine and oak trees and will be added to the Stafford Forge wildlife management area.

DEP said in a news release that the land tracts will help protect water quality in the upland headwaters of three Barnegat Bay tributaries.
The Christie Administration committed nearly $3 million toward preserving more than 2,000 acres in the Barnegat Bay watershed, according to a DEP news release.
