I live somewhat near that Tabernacle playground. I will be bringing my little guy there in the spring. Good to know it is safe now. I am going to have deck built off of my house. I have been debating treated lumber or that plastic stuff. Should I be concerned about health concerns with treated lumber or is that chemical no longer used?
Jeff
Treated lumber uses less caustic materials than a few years ago, but it still contains... I think... arsenic and some other goodies. I'm not one who worried much about the health affects, but I wouldn't burn it and stand in the smoke for a couple of hours.
I rebuilt our 16 x 50 deck three or four years ago. Went through a whole eval of the available materials, from fake and pressure-treated through red cedar and Ipe.
I ended up going with red cedar, and I like the look, but it's still a lot of work to keep it clean and maintain it. In fact I need to refinish it this coming spring. The fake stuff has gotten a lot better, but I still don't like the way it ages. Ipe is the win, if you have the tools to work it, or have a contractor with experience working it.
