This morning while downloading google earth tiles to make reaster maps out of for my triton gps I was calibrating the image to make the map out of it which entails picking points and enetering coords to align the image so when put into the gps it aligns with reality. In any case I noticed this object and at first thought it was a wtermark added by google earth to express ownership of the imagery but on second look i noticed the shadow too.Thell me what you see if you have google earth, make sure your on the latest imagery.

Nice one Al. You can even see the shadow! The 12/23/2009 map does not show it so that map is really new.

yes the shadow was what convinced me it was real and i noticed that yes the image is very new.a couple weeks at most.this makes me want to start a gpx file of plane images on google earth.in the desert to pass the time we used to pass around a deck of card with enemy aircraft on them and another with enemy tanks and practice identifying them on sight.maybe we could start an aircraft identification thread from images on google earth:)

Al,

Once you have your place-mark either by typing in the coordinates, or using the pushpin, go to the File Menu and choose Save As, and your directory will come up with the file titled kmz. Save to where you want it.

Al,

Also, if you load in a bunch of waypoints, right click on the waypoint you want to send to someone and choose "Save As" in the contextual menu.

I am surprised we have not viewed more planes while looking over the maps.

Guy how do you find the map from 12/23/09. It seems this map is at least 6 months old,or I'm doing something wrong. Cause I know those trees I pulled out of the field didn't grow back yet...
But a lot of the street views are about 4 months old in the area

Skip,

Earlier today when I slid the slider back just a small amount from today, it would stop on 12/23/09. Now for some reason that date will not show up. I tried every altitude I used and that will not work. So at this point I can't get it to come up with that date. I will keep trying for a solution.

I am beginning to think we can't trust those dates. I see the plane on July 17 2006, not on August 12 2006, but then it is again on todays date.
