Went on a stone/monument hunt today after finding some deeds on the Cumberland county clerks site. They have started putting up Deeds online and are back to 2002 now.I found a property the state hade recently purchased from a local sand mine and it piked my interest because it listed a stone and seven granite monuments so I broke out my rusty plotting goggles and went to work. The first monument was a concrete and the point fell in the middle of a dirt road and i fear it is gone but the second was right on the money as all I found were.I started with a plane coord and the rest was a plot with no adjustment for dec since it's a recent deed and everything was true north. The second I was clued into by the presence of state signs about six feet away on a tree.I pushed aside the huckleberry and found this.
Next I found my first granite. This one was kinda short. They were soon to get taller.
Then I found the one with the stone. Also heralded by state signs and right next to a cycle trail.Glad their still there.
Then another granite about thirty feet from a state sign
Heres one with some type of metal hooks imbedded into it????
The next two pics are of opposite sides of the same monument.I think these are sockets that once had the same type of hooks the preceeding monument had.One looks like a smiley face.
An old foundation out in the middle of nowhere.Used to hang out here many moons ago.Never knew I was sitting between two monuments.
What pray tell is this?

And a short little white one.A surprise.
After this i came up empty at a plce I looked for a stone years ago and also apparently supposedly held a granite monument.perhaps this is what the stone was.In any case it's next to a trail and in a very nasty locale.I refound the old blazes i found years ago but could find nothing else.I thought the stone might be buried but I doubt one of these monuments is buried. Now i think it has been stolen.I then went north of the swamp and found one very nice concrete in a nice location on a hillside but forgot the camera in the truck of course laying on the seat in plain view.It was there when i got back and no broken windows.I always do something like this at least once a trip.If I hadn't I'd of suspected myself of being an imposter but alas it was really me.I then looked for one last granite in the most god forsake laurel/briar infested swamp i had seen all day and I never found it.I could go back in winter but the laurel was so bad it probably wouldn't make a difference.I know i made some critters blush back there.Glad I got out.
