Work (and life) has been crazy busy and I have not had much time for riding in the pines. I am very thankful to have some beautiful scenery near me to take away the pain 5.jpg28.JPG35.JPGeagle2.JPGforsythe ibis.jpegIMG_7044.JPGP1380604.JPGP1390039.JPGP1510249.JPGP1690700.JPGP1780348.JPGP1780384.JPGP1790031.JPGP1810993.JPGP1890523.JPGP1980553.JPGP2080396.JPGP2110798.JPGP2140698.JPG

In looking at the photos, and knowing some birders, it's obvious why some people become birders. I admire birders because unlike a plant, birds don't stand right next to you and wait for you to give them a name. Plus, the diversity is amazing.

Thanks guys. Bob, we are always amazed by the birds every time we go to Forsythe. Every time there is something different. We saw pelicans a few weeks ago!!! (Batteries died in the camera and I did not get the shot lol.

Tim, Grassy Sound is one of my favorite spots (all sides of it) The falling apart houses on the way in and the well taken care 100 year old properties on the boardwalks. I did a few inspections out there (I even did their new sewage system building a few years back). I met some great people and have a standing invite for a history lesson if I ever get time.

Forsythe is an awesome place. I really enjoy going there.

I'm glad to hear that the pelicans are still hanging around. I have seen them a total of two times.

Two on 12/14/22:

And then three this past year on 11/25/23:

Both times, they were very far away though, and this is a difficult shot to get. These are heavily cropped in. There is a beautiful framed photo of them in the visitors center taken from close range and/or with more expensive gear than I own.

I really wonder what they are doing here, more than a thousand miles outside their typical range. If you look at the 2012 Forsythe bird brochure from the FWS, it lists the occurrence of American White Pelicans in the reserve as "accidental," which is the rarest category for observed species. Maybe someone here who knows more about birds can help explain.
