All,

Today my kids and I along with my father-in-law- and sister-in-law spent a few hours hiking and exploring some area's of the pines. My wife's relatives had never been in the pines and they wanted a short tour. So after stopping to show them Carranza Memorial we headed to Friendship where my wife's sister took some photo's. She took one from the bridge at Friendship that would be great to post but I do not have permission for that. We then drove to the granite marker at Friendship and hiked our way to the bog area. During our hike we found a turtle.

We made it to the large lake that makes up the southern portion of the bogs and explored there.

We then tried to walk around it and access the cranberry bogs north of it, but were forced to turn back since the path was blocked.

Our next stop was the grave of Charles Wills. My 1000th visit but I always enjoy it.

And finally our last stop was Apple Pie Hill and the required trek up the tower.

When I went up to Apple Pie Hill last, which was two weeks ago, there was yellow tape everywhere that said "caution" I think. It looked like it had been wrapped around the tower but someone had ripped it down. Any idea what that is about? Are we not supposed to climb it anymore?

I don't know the answer to that, but a close look at the tower shows that some of the supports are damaged and in one case almost broken through. That tower was installed about 1950 and is showing it's wear.
