I just don't know what to say about this. But, I thought I would post something to see if I could spur someone else to give an opinion on it. I have an opinion right now that would probably seem harsh to some.

TeeGate started a thread on this topic on 7/16. My comment would probably be considered "harsh". We just bought some blues in our local Publix supermarket. Labeled "BLOOZ" from Hammonton, NJ (TomM!!! Where are you????). Grown and Packed by Columbia (?) Blueberry Farms. (Is this a Columbian drug cartel gone legit???) Anyway, gosh are they unbelievably delicious! My wife said she read an article on men's health that said men should consume a 1/4 cup of blues 3x's a week. I'm in ! When I read the title of this thread, being a fisherman, I thought it was an article about "Too Many Bluefish". If that were true I'd fly up there in a heartbeat! Love to catch blues. And love to eat blues. If you eat blues I think you will beat the blues. Had a huge blueberry pancake for breakfast Sunday morning with real maple syrup. So many good things from the good earth. Blessings and have a great week...David :dance::D:words::)

So next year there is no incentive for the growers to scale down production based on market demand. The sad part is that, in general, Americans sees this as necessary/acceptable preferential redistribution of wealth and not theft.

This isn’t anything new. Anyone remember government cheese? I seem to recall my economics professor explaining the rationale behind farm subsidies and price supports over 25 years ago. The reason given by him for this admitted deviation from the normal mechanics of capitalism was America’s romantic attachment to farming and an attempt to keep family-owned farms alive. Farmers face different circumstances than manufacturers. It’s hard to adjust next year’s production based on this year’s crop due to all the variables that they may encounter next season, such as weather, disease and insects. With farmers barely breaking even in many years, and also facing constant pressure from developers to sell their land, these government programs could sometimes spell the difference between continued open space and another Hovnanian house farm. The problem occurs when the programs benefit and increase the profits of large corporate owned farms, rather than the smaller farms they were designed to protect. Being neither a conservative nor a liberal myself, I’m kind of torn on the subject. But then, our nation has rarely been a strictly capitalist one. We’ve adopted aspects of both capitalism and socialism. When and how much to implement either ideology is always subject of debate. It certainly keeps our politics lively!

Ha ha! I believe the name "Columbia" is the name from a farm on Columbia Road in Hammonton (locally aka; Airport - Columbia Road, New Columbia Road), and a possible continuation of "Old Forks Road".

:words:Whew, had me worried for a nano-second (that's one-billionth of a second for those of us who count'em). I would be very excited if Columbia could do such a thing, cross training from Coca to Blues, not sure if their climate would support such a transition though. The weather and elevation I mean. The political climate would not tolerate such a transition--no money in it, and besides, it would have to be subsidized and the surplus bought to make blueberry pies for the folks in desperate need of erasing the blues. Blue teeth would be the new trend. A splendid time would be guaranteed for all! Consider the tourist trade getting a real boost---country-wide tours of Columbian blueberry farms, all you can eat. Blueberry beer, blueberry wine, blueberry soda, syrup, butter, yoghurt. Ummmmmmm !!!!! An antioxidant-filled country of the healthiest and bluest people on earth! :words::words::words::words: Gosh I love blueberrieS !!!!!
