I just happened upon this very early test film by Kodak produced in 1922 while I was looking for information on a Bronica ETR si. Google has a wonderful way of mixing search results and I was surprised to see such a mesmerizing piece of film listed in my search. The flicker and unusual silent film gestures is what captured my attention. The women's exaggerated movements and facial expression are an oddity for modern viewers. I have never seen either in color. The short film has been converted perfectly and is true to its original form.
Flicker that can be seen in the film are the result of two different things. The combination of a hand cranked camera and the uneven density of the film because of its age combine to produce the flicker seen in most films from the period. Modern digital enhancements can eliminate or add this effect but the original artifact has a movement that can not be duplicated. Only the classics can produce such a flicker in film.
