Sorry I had to post this one,
Car ran out of gas while he was fleeing the robbery scene
The alleged weapon turned out to be a spray nozzle from a garden hose

VINELAND – Steven Mercado’s alleged attempt to rob a bank on Thursday seemed well planned.
But Mercado forgot to do one thing: Check the gas tank of his getaway car.

According to city police, Mercado’s car ran out of gas while he was fleeing the robbery scene. Police said they arrested Mercado after he left his vehicle after calling a local taxi cab company to pick him up.
The arrest took its toll on a police car that was involved in chasing Mercado. The vehicle hit the sign of Dondero Jewelers during the pursuit.
Now, Mercadi, 32, of the 1200 block of North East Boulevard here, is charged with armed robbery. He is being held in the Cumberland County jail on $400,000 cash bail.
Police allege that Mercado entered the Susquehanna Bank in the 2300 block of North Delsea Drive and demanded money from a teller. The note indicated that Mercado was armed, although no weapon was displayed, they said. The alleged weapon turned out to be a spray nozzle from a garden hose, they said.
The teller gave Mercado an undisclosed amount of money, and he fled the bank, heading north across Garden Road on North Delsea Drive, police said.
Police said Mercado had parked his car at a business in the 2400 block of North Delsea Drive, but it ran out of gas as he tried to make his getaway. He then called the tax cab company, but was arrested after he left his car and tried to flee the scene, they said.

Maybe this guy should run for office:eek:
