I think it is...

This may be part of the Pine Tree Education Center on Buttersworth Bogs rd in Tabernacle. If you do a google maps zoom of that road in Satellite view you will see the pond. Looks like a nice swimming hole.

Al,

That is the Boy Scout camp. A few years back I acquired permission to roam the property to look for property stones. There were a few there and I was only able to find one. It should have been inscribed but I did not find it to be. Anyway, it is a really nice place in the woods. They own a really nice hill there almost like the hill nearby on Carranza Road. I was surprised how high it was.

I was told they had acquired small pieces of property adjacent to theirs and they wanted to find the corners. I told them I would help and we were making plans but it never came to be. I did find a few Wharton monuments.

The lake in question.

The hill.

The inscribed stone that isn't I believe. I may have to go back one day and ask to visit it again.

Another stone. There is a posibility I strayed off of their property for this one. I was uncertain of their exact line in this area.

The bridge to the lake, or the back of the lake.

It was an exhausting and interesting day. I could have spent a week on that property.

Stone hunting has taken me places I would have never known about. It really is not just about finding them. Along with a good find there also is the walk there, the surroundings, and the walk back. I KNOW you understand that :)

Al, it is so odd you bring that up. I saw it on Bing last Friday and wondered the same thing, but for a slightly different reason. I was wondering why I could not see a road to it, but then I dismissed it as just heavy tree cover. The first thing that caught my eye was that field near there. Like, what are these people growing way out there?

It was 4/3/2005 when I was there. The hill is directly east of the lake, and the lake must have been part of the cranberry bog there. The white area to the NE is the camp itself. They have a hugh totem pole there with various buildings for the scouts to stay. The caretaker lives right there is a house. It was a quiet day when I arrived, and the handful of kids directed me to the caretaker. He was nice but as one would expect he was skeptical. My approach was as it always is, I tell them the truth and talked about the property. Within a few minutes I had permission along with some tips on where to find some monuments.

I walked about 4 miles, at times around in circles and retracing my steps. There should have been a few more inscribed stones but the state as it does quite often had plowed a trail along its property line which created mounts of dirt where the stones may still be. They had completed a control burn there a year or two previous.

The bog to the North was in operation and I could hear motors running. In the distance on that property I could see what appeared to be a small hunting shack. When I returned to the camp I showed him my photo's and that is when I met another man from the scouts. He is the one who told me they had been given small parcels of land just south of the lake in the swamp.

I have and I'm sure you have to on various occasions found some very interesting plants growing in the woods.fertilizer bags and gallon jugs are a sure tip off to start looking. These plants usually grow within a short walk of a water source and show signs of possibly being planted by humans. They have the most beautiful lacy green foliage and I could swear i've seen the same plant as decals on peoples t-shirts.I once smelled a field of it burning but I quickly held my breath like Bill and refused to inhale:)

yes the walk is half the fun. Those last stones I went to find out by that nice little bog.that bog was a real treat and unexpected since i didn't do my proper homework but only quickly scanned the black and white aerials.if i had birds eyed the area I'd have noticed the bog.also i came in from the south through a most awesome flooded open cedar swamp.I did not plan on getting wet getting there,i was going to come in from the east but in the end i figured from the south would be much shorter.i had my good boots on and stood at the edge of the flooded swamp and thought to my self a stone hunters gotta do what a stone hunters gotta do and in i went.i didn't regret it.purtiest swamp i waded through in sometime.Stones were very hard to find. You covered your tracks like an apache scout and barring a few little tricks you taught me I'd have never found them:)

That is the cedar swamp I came in. It is really nice, and I suspect there are more like it. We may have a major PBX hike there next year using those swamps to traverse. Most of that area is briers, but if we plan it right we may travel in a garden.
