PBTF and Green Tree Frog Range Overlap?

Thanks Joe. I think it was a Burlington Co. pine. About a year old. Kind of a light pink-beige with some red flecks.

PBTF and Green Tree Frog Range Overlap?

Manumuskin, I didn't get an exact location but I grew up in Heislerville catching all kinds of herps and can say with 99% certainty that they are no longer there, if they ever were. They may have died out before my time. There are Pine Barrens Tree frogs scattered throughout the area but are...

PBTF and Green Tree Frog Range Overlap?

Interestingly the other day a friend made mention to a population of Barking tree frogs that were once found in Heislerville, Maurice River Township in Cumberland County. Not sure of the location but he said they are no longer there. Anyone have any info on this former population? I have read...

PBTF and Green Tree Frog Range Overlap?

Joe, While not in the pinelands, native populations of Hyla cinerea have recently been found here. Here are a few links. http://www.conservewildlifenj.org/blog/2011/06/16/the-american-green-treefrog-found-in-southern-new-jersey/...

PBTF and Green Tree Frog Range Overlap?

Both of their ranges overlap throughout the rest of their ranges in NC,SC,FL,AL and as far as I know they do not regularly hybridize. Both are fairly specific in habitat. On Delmarva Hyla cinerea seems to not stray very far from the coast from what I have heard and seem to prefer marshes...

    Fire in Bevan WMA

I live in Dorchester, just on the other side of the river. The wind blew the smoke directly at us. Driving down my street it reminded me of the smog you see in photos of China. The smoke was so bad I had to abandon doing any work in the yard and had a killer sore throat. I took a few photos with...

    Bobcats may be making comeback

A group of us found a number of tracks following smaller mammal tracks in the area around Wharton SF about 20 years back. Also a friend of mine has VERY GOOD video of a Bobcat sunning itself in the middle of a dirt road in Cape May county. There have also been many sightings of Bobcat in a...

    Ipomopsis rubra threatened

I haven't been by there during day light hours since last fall, but there were a few mounds of sand/gravel there then. The population seems to have shifted around a bit over the past 10-15 years but was still going strong last fall. I did notice a few yellow flowered plants mixed in which I...

    Bald Eagle Spotted

I have been seeing quite a few recently here in Cumberland county. About 2-3 weeks ago I had two juvenile eagles fly directly over my house only about 20' above the roof. I live about a quarter mile or less from the Maurice River across the woods. During spring and summer I see ospreys fly over...

Slow to fight southern pine beetles

They have been killing pines here along the Delaware bay for at least the last 10 maybe even 15 years now. They seem to prefer Loblollies and Pond Pines over Pitch, Shortleaf and Virginia pines when available. They have taken out quite a few large stands of BIG Pond Pines and Loblollies in...

Chiggers are out in full force already...

Manumuskin, I grew up in Heislerville, lived in Millville for a number of years and moved back down to Maurice River Township about 2 years back. My sister actually lives in Laurel Lake as well.

Venus Fly Traps in the NJ Pine Barrens

At one time I had a MASSIVE collection of Pitcher plants, sundews and about 6 or so cultivars of Venus Fly traps. I even hybridized quite a few (sarracenia). All but a few Australian and asian species of Carnivores were grown outside all year. All species of Sarracenia are perfectly winter...

Rhexia aristosa and Ipomopsis rubra blooming (pics)

Thanks! Raven, I think it is a little questionable but it does occur in similar Pine barrens habitat on the Delmarva penninsula also and is last time I checked considered native there.
