I’m going to be in the makepeace lake area in august and was considering bringing my bike to check out the roads. Are they bike friendly or too soft? I have a standard mountain bike not fat tires or battery power

It's a mix there, really. You'll find good and bad. But I don't recall sugar sand there like it you can further north.
Tamminen Road, the gravel road that runs from the lake to the airfield is a short enjoyable bike ride. After that it's a mixed bag.
If you ride it in August, you will likely be cursing the amount of deer flies there.
