If legend holds true, the bodies of seven dead British colonial soldiers may be buried somewhere along the Maurice River, causalties of a purported Revolutionary War battle fought here in Cumberland County.
With a newly approved $49,500 National Park Service grant, the county will now allow engineers to search for them, and, if found, dig them up.
The grant, announced Tuesday morning, is part of the American Battlefield Protection Program and will allow the county to study what’s believed to be the only documented military action in the county during the American Revolution.
