Where we went yesterday

Yesterday Keith and I wanted to head out to Seabreeze in Cumberland
County. On the way we stopped in Dorothy to check out an abandoned
church we had spotted on Monday. It says "Byelorussian Autocephalic
Orthodox Church, Holy Trinity Parish" and "The Very Reverend Karp
Star, Sunday Service 10 am" on the signboard.
Then on the Cumberland-Port Elizabeth Road we stopped where the
railroad tracks cross the road and walked in to the west. I had seen
on the map that the tracks cross a river. So I wanted to see if there
was a trestle. There was just a concrete bridge over the river. But
we walked on beyond the bridge and checked out a string of abandoned
tanker cars on a siding next to the main line. They were very new,
maybe from the late 90s, but were parked there on the tracks. There
were maybe about 18 or 20 of them. To the right and to the left there
was an abandoned sand mining operation. In the area on the left there
was a big pond/lake there which we checked out.
After this we went to the Dorchester Wawa and then down to
Mauricetown for a few minutes. Behind someone's house near the church
I saw what looked like a fire tower, only it was less than the height
of the house it was behind. That was very weird.
Then we got on a road that took us directly to Dividing Creek, where
we picked up 553 to go to the road out to Seabreeze. Along 553 we saw
about 12-15 big wild turkeys running around in somone's back field.
They were cool.
Along Back Neck Road, 601, we stopped at the 1680 church site and
1700s cemetery for a few minutes and then headed out to Seabreeze.
Unfortunately by the time we left there it was nearly 4 o'clock
because we didn't start our trip till like 11:30. I was going to
drive up to the Blue Hole, but by the time we got about halfway there
I decided it was too late and we headed back here.
I'll take Keith to the Blue Hole at a later date, maybe this weekend.
We'll also hit the Russian Orthodox Church and cemetery at New Kuban
(Buena Vista Township I think).
One day I want to find some of the rural 19th century Jewish
Synagogues in Cumberland County like the one in Rosenhayn. I've been
to the one in Woodbine, but I want to find the others some time.
Anyway, it was a good day today.
