Cash is King. I literally never charge fuel. I do as much business as possible in cash, especially with small local businesses. They lose when you use a card.

My local mechanic, who does things for me that I can't do or no longer have the time, energy or tools to do, really appreciates it. I actually handed him $655.00 real money yesterday.

The real question is, when will NJ permit pumping your own gas as the other 49 states allow?

I would say, no time soon. There's a bill for it, but they tried in 2022 and it never made it out of committee.

I can't even remember the last time I paid cash for gas. For that matter, I probably only use cash for purchases about 10 times a year. It's 2025: customers want to use credit. I think we're getting to the point where lost customers will be a greater liability than credit card fees for a small business. That's enough to keep me away.

This makes sense for Wawa, as the attendants don’t need to make change.
They still will have to make change if you do what I plan on doing. If I want my tank filled and I don't know how much that will be I will just give them $40 and tell them I want $40. When it clicks off at $32 they will need to give me $8 as they say they will. I use to always use the Wawa credit card but they have abandoned that recently so they are stuck taking my cash.

In reality, I go to a local station near me but they are not open on Sundays and sometimes I find myself needing it then so I would go to Wawa.

I once read an article about this a few years ago when they tried to get it passed. Besides the possible safety issues of people pumping their own gas. They said not having attendants may cause the price of gas to increase.
