I have always like this song. It's different, and a really good composition. I just found this video. Notice how well they play on live TV. Every person in the band knows their part and their instrument. Look how long Al's fingers are as he plays one of the guitar solos. Though video is not great, this is classic.

Still don't understand what it's about but have always liked the song too.

From DDG's Search Assist... '"Year of the Cat" by Al Stewart explores themes of fleeting romance and the allure of exotic experiences. The song's narrative follows a tourist who becomes captivated by a mysterious woman, reflecting on the transient nature of life and love against a backdrop of nostalgia and intrigue.'

This song, and Dylan's Mozambique, reminds me of the stories that older co-workers told of driving/hitchhiking through Europe and the Middle-East in the 60s. Seen some people YouTube documenting similar drives now. But it always looks very tense in comparison to those stories I was told. :(

I've been going back through this thread, all sixteen years of it, trying to find some of the songs whose YouTube or other links have broken. There was one from 2009 about what it would be like if Roy Clark played in a rock and roll band. I'm not 100% sure this is the right clip, but I think you'll enjoy it regardless of that.

And for good measure, here is a second clip. Of all places to see Roy Clark, here he is, performing on The Odd Couple.

I feel sorry for folks who only think of Roy Clark as that Hee Haw guy.

Thinking of a newer 4 runner with less miles. This guy has one, but I'm laughing too hard to call him. It was a joke by him, I liked it.

Hey, if you're gonna make fun of me, least get the name of the song right its Touch of Grey. You forget that I'm sitting in front of a computer.
And for the record, that's probably one of the worst Dead songs ever. I do not like happy, frolicking tunes sung by smelly Hippies..
You know Scott, it's like you were bonked on the head sometime between 1967 and 1978, and zoomed through an entire generation without knowing it.

Any NJPB post that contains the word "frolicking", deserves five stars and a laughing emoji.
