That looks like one of the roads that the sand company made in the late 70s and early 80s near the Forked River Mountains. Just a guess. What makes you think it is a railroad?

That road is pretty distinctive. I was pretty certain I had the correct road. I watched it being built. I have to assume these were test holes because later they were gone.

Cool photo Guy. I'm quite surprised to see how low the water table was that year. What was that, like 1976?

I would have to get my slides out to find the exact development date. For some reason that file does not have the date on it. With that said, I believe it was a few years later around 1978 because the below photo of the hill they removed was taken around the same time and that says it was developed 1/79 which would mean late 1978. So summer fall and early winter of 1978 seems about right but I could be wrong.

As stated, that's not the railroad, but there was however a railroad that ran near there. If you check the sattelite photos it ran parallel to Lacey Rd. in a straight line right from Whiting to Rt. 9. Separated by the Parkway of course.

you are correct. the road was always there. they just double widened it for truck traffic. very early 80-s. we called it the super hi-way.

I was looking through my slides and I found two more. Sorry for the quality...I was having shutter problems. I had that repaired numerous times only to fail again.

This was taken from a hill along the road. The hill was made from the digging of the holes. The second photo I turned and took looking down at my Land Cruiser.

Pines; Bamber area
I'm surprised the pines did not holler.....RAPE!....Help me!

I was on a hill right near there in about 1978 or so, riding my 125 Combat Wombat. I lived in Lakehurst at the time.

When I moved into Bamber in 1982 it was gone. Just like they do in West Virginia, hacked the top right off.

It oughta be against the law.

I forgot to check the date on the slide. I will do that tonight.
