looking for small lake to fish

Wells Mills park is OK. Caught a couple big bass & sunnies there. The bass I caught were by the park bench area. I tried hiking around to other areas, but never had much luck.

    where to fish?

If you're talking about Harry Wright Lake in Whiting, I'm almost positive there is no fishing allowed. Bamber is just OK...you'll catch small pickerel. I've seen small bass swimming around, but never caught one. Bamber is hard to fish from the shore once the lillys come up. You'll need a boat...

    fishing??????

bobpbx, I was surprised about that Sunny also! I thought it was a small bass at first, but it never breached during the fight. I've been catching some large panfish on 2 3/4" & 3" rapalas this year. Thanks for the Bamber info. I'll have to try for bass the next time I go, but I need to find...

    fishing??????

bobpbx, I believe there are bass there, I just always catch picks. The population must be small or the picks hit before the bass? However, if you are a bass fisherman, you would have better luck targeting other lakes than Bamber. I hit Bamber 2 weeks ago and caught the usual, 3 10"-12"...

    Tick today

I've had success using Deep Woods OFF. If they're embeded, spray it on the tick and it will pull out of your skin within a minute. I use to just "pull them out" but that isn't safe. Vaseline or rubbing alcohol sometimes kills them embedded.

    fishing??????

Piney Mike, Thanks for the reply. My experience with Bamber has always been 10" - 12" picks, but a lot of them. I've never caught a bass there either. I can relate to the a-hole comment. I had 2 guys in a boat (I fish shoreline) cast spinners on each side of my bobber w/ a killie a month...

    fishing??????

I went onto the NJ F&W site and it looks like they stock tiger muskies in Shenandoah. It says they're a "sterile" hybrid of pike & muskie. This leads me to believe there isn't a big population in there because they can't reproduce. Also, the average stocking size, if I remember correctly, is...

    fishing??????

Nice info 46er. I never knew they stocked Shenandoah with muskies. I thought they only stocked northern NJ lakes with them. I'm about 20 minutes away also. Time to break out the BIG lures! Do you know when they started stocking Shenandoah with muskies? There might be some big ones in there! Does...

    fishing??????

Piney Mike, I see you are from Bamber Lake so you may already fish this spot, but I'll suggest it anyways. Also, it's not the middle of the pines. Wells Mills in Waretown has some bigger (18") lm bass. Try fishing the deeper sections near the dam (all along the steel wall). Lillies don't...

    fishing??????

46er, Thanks for the info. I'll probably get a canoe this year. I've been holding off on buying one since March. I just wanted to make sure I made it through the latest round of layoffs at work (which I did). As for deboning pickerel, I heard the same. It's the same method used for pike &...

    fishing??????

All my fish are catch and release. Like everyone else, I try to minimize touching pickerel, but they are a feisty fish that fights nonstop, so sometimes I place a hand near their gills (not in) to calm them down enough to get the hook out. When fishing killies, I use a single #4 hook. The...
