    2026 NJ Pine Barrens Calendar

I got mine yesterday at the park office at Brendan Byrne. They’re actually kind of nice and they’re free, but they keep them behind the counter, so you have to ask for one. Not sure if they also have them at the park offices in Batsto, Atsion and Bass River.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife proposes new fees for recreation on state lands

The state believes they can make $250,000 a year in licensing fees. What they’re not saying is how much they think they’ll make a year in fines.

    Bamber Home for Sale

I totally understand the desire to want to downsize. I remember when my dream house was a giant mansion. Now my 2,400 sq ft is starting to become a burden to maintain. My dream house today is about a 1,200 square ft rancher with a ‘natural’ yard.

    Missing Woman

Sounds like the abusive boyfriend is the prime suspect. I know there can be a lot of mitigating factors that make it difficult for a woman to leave an abusive relationship, but it’s always the best option.

    Missing person in Jackson

I don’t know what happened here, but this missing man being randomly abducted or killed by a stranger with no motivating factors is probably the least likely scenario. I spend a lot of time hiking alone in the Pine Barrens, sometimes after dark, and I feel quite safe out there. Statistically...

Some various photos and observations from the past few days

I always take photographs of distinguished looking mushrooms, but I don’t really know one from another which is why I never-ever-ever pick and eat wild mushrooms.

Some various photos and observations from the past few days

I saw this near Martha Bridge earlier this week. Not only is it the biggest mushroom I have encountered in the Pine Barrens, it’s the first mushroom I have ever seen with a cave drawing of a Pterodactyl on it.

    Seafood in the Pines

If you are ever in Seaville, NJ (small town outside Ocean City) there is a restaurant on Rt. 50 called Dino’s Diner. They make the best snapper soup I have ever had in South Jersey. And that includes all the high end restaurants in Cape May and Atlantic City. When they ask you if you want...

Some various photos and observations from the past few days

I took these on Lake Lenape on Sept 28, 2024. It’s one of the small islands that are found on the very northern part of the lake as you enter the creek. It looks like the same yellow flower I photographed at Menantico Sand Ponds this fall?

Some various photos and observations from the past few days

I’m having difficulty getting my bearings trying to decipher that map photo from my phone screen. I know the exact location. When I get home tonight and have my iPad I can find it and drop a pin for you. Would you prefer I do that in a PM rather than publicly?

Some various photos and observations from the past few days

That was photographed from my kayak in the stream that feeds into Menantico Sand Ponds. There were two hummingbirds feeding on the flowers but I guess I got too close to snap the photo and they took off.

Here’s a few I snapped on the last few months.

    Groundhogs?

Good eye! I was driving by that area this morning and decided to stop and throw a tape measure on that hole to check the progress of my senility as it relates to spatial awareness :) I couldn’t locate the exact hole I posted in the above photo (senility is progressing nicely) but the hole in the...

    Groundhogs?

I have more photos I didn’t post, but that looks virtually identical to what I saw. The photo I posted doesn’t do justice to the size of the holes. They’re pretty big. Probably a foot or more in diameter. I spotted three of them in about a 25 yard radius.
