Some various photos and observations from the past few days

I took these on Lake Lenape on Sept 28, 2024. It’s one of the small islands that are found on the very northern part of the lake as you enter the creek. It looks like the same yellow flower I photographed at Menantico Sand Ponds this fall?

Some various photos and observations from the past few days

I’m having difficulty getting my bearings trying to decipher that map photo from my phone screen. I know the exact location. When I get home tonight and have my iPad I can find it and drop a pin for you. Would you prefer I do that in a PM rather than publicly?

Some various photos and observations from the past few days

That was photographed from my kayak in the stream that feeds into Menantico Sand Ponds. There were two hummingbirds feeding on the flowers but I guess I got too close to snap the photo and they took off.

    Groundhogs?

Good eye! I was driving by that area this morning and decided to stop and throw a tape measure on that hole to check the progress of my senility as it relates to spatial awareness :) I couldn’t locate the exact hole I posted in the above photo (senility is progressing nicely) but the hole in the...

    Groundhogs?

I have more photos I didn’t post, but that looks virtually identical to what I saw. The photo I posted doesn’t do justice to the size of the holes. They’re pretty big. Probably a foot or more in diameter. I spotted three of them in about a 25 yard radius.

    Groundhogs?

Also saw this fence lizard scurry away. He let me get right over him to snap a photo. I guess he figured it was too late to run, so camouflage was his best option.

    Groundhogs?

I saw these holes while I was exploring near Evan’s Bridge this week. I’m assuming they were made by groundhogs?

At Whitesbog, More Than 150 Years Of Cranberry Farming

Saw them harvesting this past weekend. I guess cranberries, like every other crop, vary from year to year based on the weather. The local NJ Pine Barrens cranberries I bought this year appear to be lighter in color than previous years.

A Fine Time For Fine Wine

We don’t live in a cold enough area to do this, but I was surprised to find out that people in New England used to ferment cider to wine strength, then set it in barrels outside during the winter. Then each morning they would remove the frozen top layer of liquid in the barrel. The frozen liquid...

A Fine Time For Fine Wine

I haven’t made wine or beer in 25-30 years. What’s the typical price for 5 gallons of grape juice from Gino Pinto this year?

Two Injured In UTV Crash In Ocean County

Yeah, I’m a little concerned about that scenario. My insurance pays 100% for three cleanings a year and 100% for all diagnostic procedures. I don’t want diagnostic procedures performed on me because they’re free and they present a billing opportunity for the dentist.

Two Injured In UTV Crash In Ocean County

By law your dentist has to provide you with a copy of your dental records if you request them, so I just forwarded my stack of x-rays to my new dentist. I had a great dentist for 20+ years, but he retired. I didn’t just leave his replacement over excessive x-rays. I got $1,367 of...

Two Injured In UTV Crash In Ocean County

Attorneys :-( I got into an argument with my dentist because she wants to take exploratory X-rays every time I walk through the door. I said to her, “I let you take a full series of x-rays of my mouth just two years ago. Why do you feel it’s necessary to take x-rays every six months when I...

Fall Bow Opens Saturday In All Zones

I tore my rotator cuff in 2013. A friend who had torn his rotator cuff handed me a book on self care for rotator cuff injuries. It was a Godsend. When you have healed enough, I would highly recommend you do stretching exercises. You can find examples on YouTube or on the web. These exercises...

NJ ranks as #3 US state for mental health

I’m in Cape May County and I have a client who donates her time to an organization called Volunteers In Medicine that provides free health care to people who can’t afford it. She said the biggest problem they see is mental heath issues and they have virtually no professionals in that field who...
