Crews Battling Wildfire Along Mullica River in South Jersey’s Wharton State Forest

Rockwood road is maintained a ways back. Shortly after the last few houses it gets very soft. There are also a lot of roots since it was just cleared. You should be able to make it a ways back but once you hit the soft area it’s like that the rest of the way. A stock vehicle with 4wd shouldn’t...

Crews Battling Wildfire Along Mullica River in South Jersey’s Wharton State Forest

Ok. I drove all the way to the bridge behind the church. I tried West Mill but the gate is back up. Next I went down Rockwood road. It looks like during the fire the FFS improved the road filling in all the holes. In my Jeep I really didn’t need 4wd. Its a lot of soft sand and no water, for...

Yes, it would have been backfired ahead of the main fire and where the two meet they draw each other together and burn very hot.

Crews Battling Wildfire Along Mullica River in South Jersey’s Wharton State Forest

I want to start off by saying I was’t there but I can kind of guess how the fire progressed. With the ignition point on the Mullica in the vicinity of Locks bridge and I believe the wind was north west the fire would have progressed to the south and east widening as it went. Once it crossed the...

Crews Battling Wildfire Along Mullica River in South Jersey’s Wharton State Forest

When I first saw it last night I thought it was right along the Mullica. It must have started closer to 206 and got wider as it went down. Once it crosses he sleeper there’s no line of defense except West Mills and that only has one way in and out. They are likely writing off large tracks to...

    Power wagon restoration.

The old Atco Volunteer Fire Company power wagon has been completely restored. Placed in service in 1963 it served until 1999 or so. I fought many fires on this truck.

    Passing Of A Piney Legend

I was in there a while ago and barely recognized him. I didn’t even recognize him. Our families have been intertwined for years. His Brother Bruce beat cancer a few years ago but lost it to Covid.

    Furnace Archaeology

Just watched it. . Thanks. In my travels for work I’ve gone past this many times. I tried stopping once when I had time but they were closed for the season. It looks interesting to me. http://www.furnacetown.org/
