    Music for the day

While not my favorite song of his, it's fitting for this weekend. Memorial Day weekend isn't the same without a heavy dose of Bruce:)

    Forest Management

I don't think you're off base at all. I personally don't know what the best answer is. Even by doing nothing mans influence has shaped that piece of forrest. With the lack of predators the deer population was left to explode. Surrounded by farms left it vulnerable to invasives and so on. Our...

    Forest Management

While this isn't quite the pines it's not far away. It's a very good article on many of the topics we talk about here. http://www.newsworks.org/index.php/local/the-pulse/93689-a-small-patch-of-old-growth-forest-with-big-lessons-in-conservation-

    Bluefish

I couldn't agree more. When I first met my wife nearly 20 years ago nearly all her meals came out of a box and usually cooked in the microwave. When it came to seafood it was only lobster or shrimp (even flounder was too "fishy"). Now she's helping can tomatoes and freezing vegetables and eats...

    Bluefish

And we have a winner!! All of us here who haven't had the chance to try them are the losers. Thanks for the idea, I think my family might even eat it that way.:)

I'm definitely going to read that chapter at least. Maybe give it another go at the entire book again while I'm at it:)

    Iron in the Pines

It's funny you say that. I've read several of his books multiple times but every time I pick up Jersey Genesis I seem to stall.

    Black Bears in the pines

A friend of mine just went to fill his feeder last week. It looked like it was hit by a truck. After pulling the game camera he had a few good shots of a large bear destroying it.

Colliers Mills Being Heavily Abused by ORV's

I agree 100%. My 9 year daughter old has no problem identifying many plants and animals in the pines. She also knows the roads better then some of my friends. She likes harassing beavers making them slap their tails and run. When she sees a snake it's game over and wants to go home though (I'm...

Herp brains? :) Can anyone identify this frog by its call?

I hear it around the 2 second mark and 23 second. I also hear the bull frog around the 2-5 second. I thought the same as you I do hear the cricket/chorus frog during the entire length. Going by her her description I focused on the end of the video. I might add that I heard this when I played...

Off Road Abuse of Wharton State Forest Continues

Jason, while we are on the subject of personal attacks and insults. I would like to see less of yours directed at specific members of OTNJ in your blogs. Everyone's end game is to protect the pines just different ways.
