    Where is this?

I never knew it as a dog park but yes, across from Batona camp where the Christmas tree used to be and where the astronomy club goes occasionally.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Hi Tommy, given the relative quiet in recent years, our credit card processor went dormant, but we reactivated it recently. Also, our emails are working, maybe it was a temporary outage? We launched our own forum many years ago, but frankly, most of the “forum” related discussion occurs right...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

When we met with the state earlier in the year, they told us then that it wasn’t about the money. It was so they could take them away. It wouldn’t surprise me though if they start out free and then charge a small fee and gradually start jacking it up from there. By then, no politician would be...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

He knows just as well as we all do that there is no “they”.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

I wouldn’t call it “polluting the dataset” but rather “the point”. If we don’t make the state aware these roads are used, they will certainly use that as a basis for closing them.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Article that goes with it was posted. https://pressofatlanticcity.com/news/local/locals-state-eye-options-for-wharton-state-forest-access/article_03d587b0-35e8-11ed-8958-cb28cdb49a15.html

    Oriental Rd

Thanks @Teegate. Interesting. On both ends, the posted signs are actually on the gates (as opposed to the actual private property on either side of the "road") That is what had me second guessing if it was actually a public road or not. I know someone that lived in that house that burned...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Agreed. And if there is a better, suscinct, way to articulate this, we'd be happy to adopt it. I think, the technically correct descritption at the time would be that: "we support the newest USGS topo quadrangle that is closest to, but not newer than 1997 when the USGS changed their approach...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

We set up that way back when, but it never took off and then a bunch a spammers got a hold of it. :-) I just pulled it off our main menu because it is not really value added and is a distraction. Frankly, a lot of the "forum" related traffic on OTNJ occurs right here. There are quite...

    Oriental Rd

I’ve always wondered about this and I’m quite certain someone here will know the answer. :-) As far as I can tell from maps, it appears that Oriental Rd in Tabernacle should be open all the way to Carranza. But if you’ve been there, you’ll know it is blocked on both ends and marked as private...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

I think the most important thing we can do right now is to get as many people as possible involved in the stakeholder process. We may feel it will be difficult to influence the process, however, if we don’t get involved in this stakholder process than it will be impossible to influence it...

Our view: Promising new DEP steps on pinelands use, protection

Open Trails last met with the DEP in April of 2021. We were told at that time that things like "a map" (not the MAP, meaning one that closes roads) and the permit were under consideration, but the stakeholders would be consulted before the DEP moved forward. Since then, the people we worked...

    GIS software recommendation

Ok, so after going on this journey for several weeks, I think I've learned a lot about these tools and my summary is: the right choice for you will depend very much on your requirements. I've decided to give ArcGIS a whirl for a year. For my specific needs, which includes some heavier GIS...

    GIS software recommendation

That might be a slightly unfair characterization of the situation. ;) I would say I am taking the caution your raised pretty seriously, tried to understand the details of the license, provided my thoughts based on how I intend to use it and solicited feedback on my interpretation:) I...
