It was bought by another individual. It is getting cleaned up, but that is all I know about it at this time. I have heard it is really clean in there. But not sure what is being done as far as a campground or not!
Not a good idea to be illegally camping, it may cost you more in fines then it is worth if you get caught. I agree with Old Crazy, Batona is cheap enough. And there are many more campsites to choose from on Wharton. That is my opinion.
My Father-In-Law used to belong to that Gun Club many years ago. Sad to see so many of them closing the doors. But higher property taxes, insurance, and cost upkeep of the buildings makes it nearly impossible for a few folks to keep it going! Even the younger generations that are involved...
Unfortuneately Al, some not all but some folks that visit these areas have no respect for private property! They drive or walk right by a posted sign and claim it is state land as their excuse! :argh:
It is the same family Al. I believe Keith Mick is the owner now. They are the same family that has the cranberry bogs across Route 563 on the west side that borders the River. Behind the microwave towers.
Yes it does Bob! The photo is more upstream by White Horse Road just past Batona Grass Field. Such a great area in my opinion to explore. I spend more time in that area of Wharton than most!
