Death of a Child by Snake, 1893

I had thought of that also, Al. That the snake was just trying to get warm. (BTW that is quite a story, glad you made it through). However, I noticed the date was june 15th and generally it is pretty warm that time of year, would the snake be seeking out a warm body with all that warm sun...

Death of a Child by Snake, 1893

Wow, that is terrible. Very odd for a pine snake to behave that way. Either a very freak accident, or perhaps there is more to the story and the snake was a scapegoat of sorts.

    spung?????

They are the same ones. I visited three. The round one has a road leading to it that is too overgrown for most 4x4's and has large downed trees blocking the way. The second one, the sun glasses, is further down a road from the round one, the road is very flooded with deep ruts and is cut off...

    Two trips to the pines

Nice report Guy. we are about at the summit of the tree frog mating season now I guess, nice frog! That old cellar hole is interesting. I found one in the Warren Grove area a long time ago but I am pretty sure that is not it. It really makes the imagination wander to speculate about the...

    Bending or Breaking the rules

I know someone who was participating in an enduro in Lebanon SF (for like his 35th year or something) and was peeing in the woods about 30' from a not often traveled dirt road. The only others around were other male enduro riders. This was a state sanctioned event. Anyway, a ranger pulled up...

    Remote Water Bodies

Opps, Al, I am about 95% certain that there is a NO MOTOR VEHICLES sign on that road right where you meet it at 563. I believe it is what Wharton designates as a Natural area, probably because of the wading river and the fact that the Batona trail goes right near there. Nice in there isn't it...

    Remote Water Bodies

This past Saturday I got out to explore a couple remote water bodies I have been interested in. Along the way I stopped at the old dam/canal along the wading. I approached from the west side. This is foot traffic only, you have to hike in. Even though it sees alot of traffic, the...

    Bending or Breaking the rules

Piney Boy, I think it is a good question/topic to post and I like the way you presented it. But I fully agree with Guy on why we have these rules. Some of them seem outrages but I can understand where they are coming from. If there are occassions where i might "bend" the rules I am still...

    jim ungehajer's illness

Sorry to hear about this news. Jim and I tried to meet on several occasions but I always had to cancel on him last second because of one thing or another. He was always very forgiving at would say "no problem, next time". I'm sorry I never had the opportunity to meet him personally. Jeff

Apple Pie Hill Tower Smashed Again

Well, taking the tower down is out of the question since it is a fire tower lookout. It seems that instead of trying to block off the entire area they should develope a good, solid locking device at the base of the tower, maybe one flight up. It could even be left open during the day since it...

    Danger!!!

It can make you mad I know, I'm the one who started this thread, but keep in mind it is just dirt. It is a hassle to get down now but it is just dirt, mostly clay. It would be hard to justify shooting someone over ruts in the mud, that would be almost as bad as putting spikes in the...
