    Luna Moth

Yeah I found out they weren't endangered. One of my field guides said they were, obviously a myth of some sort. Thanks for the help though.

    Luna Moth

Yeah my box is full again. You can use my picture of the baby eastern kingsnake I have on here. While I have seen a few more the pictures are bad because of a concrete bridge they sit under.

    Luna Moth

I was dropping off my car today at cherry hill triplex and there was a huge luna moth probably on its death bed on a cars spare tire. I thought it was fake at first and closer inspection confirmed that it was indeed a luna moth. I have a book that says they are endangered is this true? Are...

Picture of a giant bird seen in the pines

If you look closely it is a vulture with its back to the car, with it wings spread over something. Black vultures which are slightly smaller, but still big are occasional winter residents in nj. Also turkey vultures when young still have black heads, they are huge birds. Also they are...

Bobbleton staged her on some moss, she was found under a pile of shingles. They are a very cool looking amphibian.

    Pine barrens herping 5/29

Both were lifers for me and Bob H. but I must admit this was the first time I've ever looked for them. Marbleds may be one of the coolest looking amphibians I've seen.

Good call with back of the knee that is absolutely horrendous. Ankles are bad too especially were you socks come up and irritate it all day.

A very uplifting post guys, from one snake to three is very nice sign to see. Hopefully one day I will stumble upon something like that in the pines.

Picture of a giant bird seen in the pines

If you have the video of it I'd love to see it. Many snakes rattle there tell when provoked. Black ratsnakes can sound just like rattlers. What did it look like, and yes rattlesnake are in the pines, just rare.

    Suspicious activity

Thankfully I've never seen one in person, if you google turtle traps you will see some pictures. I was notified by a fellow herper, and have since been making it a personal mission of mine to find the culprits. But since in all my time in the woods I've seen one game warden in two years, I'm...

    Suspicious activity

Guys, a heads-up to all members, I've recently caught wind of alot of poaching activity going on around cranberry bogs in our pine barrens, primarily of spotted turtles. If anyone sees large turtle traps in the pines let me know, they look like crab traps for the most part. I've been in touch...

    pine barrens herping 5/26

As far as the state not allowing people to pick things up I can understand their viewpoint. I have seen people trying to catch frogs, snakes, and lizards like they were trying to wrangle a crocodile. To me there has to kind of be a reason for picking it up, just to say you wrangled one is kind...

Picture of a giant bird seen in the pines

Took me a couple times to realize it was a bird with its wings open. Does look like a vulture, was there any dead animals on the trail?

    pine barrens herping 5/26

I agree what giving out locations is def. wrong. Taking pictures has nothing to do with giving info to poachers. The state doesn't want people picking animals up because of potential problems associated with handling animals. Such as getting bit, hurting or stressing an animal by improperly...

I've never found a hognose, but I have found a few kingsnakes, njsnakeman is the opposite having never found a king but several hogs. I never have collected a thing in my life nor agree with it, I'm 100%...

    pine barrens herping 5/26

Looks like the pine barrens herping gods were on your side. I will trade you a kingsnake find for a hognose if you want. Hoggies have eluded me for a while now.
