"Lure of the Tupehocken"...A PBX Hike

A better day could not have been had. The weather, the camaraderie and exquisitely cooked animals were stellar. My wife decided to go at the zero hour and she was glad she did. We brought the Murph along too and he hasn't stopped talking about the hike yet ! Thank you Bob for all of the effort...

    I figure ask the experts

I have lived 50' from the Wharton boundary for the past 30 years but have only camped in Wharton at a designated camping area twice. The first time was in 1976 at Goshen Pond and we drove into our site. The next time was in 1979 and we backpacked into Lower Forge from Batsto. That was the most...

    Shane's Castle, Waterford

My thoughts were that it may have been on or near Hal's lot or on the southerly side of the stream and still on the east side of the road.

    Shane's Castle, Waterford

On the the attached scan of the 1885 map I pointed out two structures near the stream crossing on Pestletown Road. The one on the west side was demo'd in the 1980's after I moved to Waterford. It can be seen in multiple years on Historic Aerials. The structure on the east side is a home and it...

    Forked River Mountain Cleanup

Good times indeed. It's a shame it was centered around cleaning up trash left by the growing segment of society who were born without a conscience. Murph's boundless energy finally waned and he slept like a rock last night.

    Shane's Castle, Waterford

Not sure if any of those could be Shane's Castle. I will take another look on Monday when I get to work. Samuel Crowley is buried in the cemetery on Pestletown Road. Here is a tidbit on him. http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?pestletown::crowley::1853.html

    Shane's Castle, Waterford

Actually, I was hoping you would jump into the mix Jerseyman ! What I know is based on discussions you and I had 10 years ago along with George when you were assisting him with his research. Let me see if I can get this at least half right. At a minimum I'll shoot for very half-assed. Clark's...

    Crowley's Landing boat ramp Closed!

Yep. This not a good location for a ramp and it never will be. The cross-current constantly exposes and undermines the toe of the ramp. Since the entire park is based around the boat access the answer is not to abandon the ramp completely. The ramp needs to be pulled further landward with...

    New tick borne disease....

"Over four months, she had experienced progressive mental decline, becoming increasingly confused. Her gait grew wobbly, and she didn’t have much of an appetite. " If I had to guess, I'd say she had been hittin' my homemade wine. :)

Trying to pick a campground on Batona Trail...

You could drive close to Lower Forge, leave your vehicle and base camp out of there with your kayaks. Same goes for the Mullica River camp below Lock's Bridge. You can drive to close by areas and leave your vehicle. Some risk involved with leaving the vehicle in the woods for three days though.

    Illegal Dumping Pilot Program

Check out these camera hides Guy. This is from a NJ Hunter thread where a guy used his camera to catch stills and video of an old man who was stealing his newspaper from his driveway every day. The old man was prosecuted.
