    Devious, Bear Swamp, Two Sawmills

It seems that the basics are now taught only in the college programs, whereas twenty five years ago, the average half wit coming out of high school had some basic algebra, geometry and trig exposure. The surveying profession used to be learned from the ground up by a person with a good...

    Devious, Bear Swamp, Two Sawmills

I started surveying in 1975 and those were still the days of transit and tape for outbounds. The first electronic distance measuring (EDM) transit I saw was in 1976. They were around but not even the big outfits owned more than one or two. I worked on several 200 acre+ wooded outbounds...

    Sunset over the Pygmy Pines

Beautiful pictures and thanks for posting them. Friday night's skies were some of the most vivid and beautiful that I can ever remember. My wife and I were driving southeast through Folsom around 6:45 Friday night and there was a vertical line of gray against blue sunny skies that was just...

    Dirt bikes!

That is one of the purposes of the required off-road vehicle event permit issued by the Pinelands Commission. The permit fee collected is $5.00 per route mile and the Commissison reviews the planned course to verify that it is not passing through sensitive areas.

    Tick today

My wife and I were out near Mannis Sunday and we had nine between the two of us. Six on me, three on her. One made it overnight on me and I ripped it out Monday morning. I am a tick magnet and get more ticks than anyone I know in the course of a year. I have had ticks in every month of the...

    Gun clubs? or shooting ranges?

Everytime I go to Dick's I try to buy at least a brick of the Federal Champion Target .22's They sell out of those almost as soon as they hit the shelf.

    Gun clubs? or shooting ranges?

What you have read is true. I shoot evey week and I am seeing ammo shortages becoming more common and the prices escalating as well. Good Ol' Barack Hussein has unknowingly done quite a lot to stimulate the economy with respect to the gun buying public. :) Here is an AP article that was...

    Gun clubs? or shooting ranges?

Bob, if you obtained a permit to purchase a handgun it is only valid in NJ. To purchase out of state, most states that I am aware of require at a minimum, reidency in their state. Florida was notorious for weak regulations on out of state gun purchases but has supposedly made a lot of...

    Dirt bikes!

Well Robert, I would counter that you are giving examples of pepole who didn't choose to travel to and enjoy the pines for their recreational ameneties. These were people who were engaged in scratching out a tough living and when presented the opportunity for time away from the grind, they...

    Dirt bikes!

Slag heap here we come baby! Let be so bold as to opine. Every (somewhat local) human group throughout history has had something to do with the pines. For the early indian inhabitants the pines were essentially an obstacle between the various life sustaining water bodies in the pines and...

    Kayak recommendations?

Water? Bleccchhhh! I picked up a used Pelican canoe last year with beer holders molded in the center. My only complaint is they won't hold a beer with a huggy on it. It makes me drink faster so the beer doesn't get warm. I think I have an angle on product liability with that. :)
