    Allaire Mill Pond Dam Failure

The little mill pond dam at Allaire Village broke open during the heavy rainfall on Saturday night sometime. The opening is 50 feet wide and the mill pond is empty. This also means the road into the village is out so this part of Allaire is inaccessible to visitors. I feel bad for all the bass...

Atsion Post Office Cancel on Ebay

Doane is aweird word and I'm not totally sure of it's origin, but I know it is specific to a post office that no longer exists. BTW, it says in the description that the Tuckerton postmark is clear in person.

Kayaked the Forks and the mouth of the Basto

The last time I was at Bodine field (several months ag0) someone had left a HUGE mess of camping debris near the river. I hope someone cleaned it up because I didn't have a bag or anything to do it.

    Washington

The photo appears to show a foundation without the center wall seen on the foundation at the Washington stables that most are familiar with. His placement of the ruins on the map seems consistent with the know ruins. I wonder if the photo is a mistake or if there is another foundation. If I had...

    Question regarding "Calico"

I think it's very probable that the newer industry reused the site of the older community. I think it's possible that the clearing with the newer foundations might represent the "redevelopment of the older "Calico". I also tend to believe that the original Calico centered around a cranberry bog...

    Finially I Got Him!!!

Yes, the photos are terrific. You even have eye contact. He's not an albino (no red eyes), but he certainly is a blonde! I have never seen anything but a gray squirrel. He's cool.

    Last of the Pineys

I remember pulling in there once and there were a few guys standing around talking...and one old guy...who was probably him. I hope he is not pestered too much due to this...or maybe he'd enjoy some company. It was a really good feeling to know someone is still making a living with the moss!

    Question regarding "Calico"

Yes, I would think so too. But isn't it strange that the manager's houses were usually right next to the furnace? I'm thinking of the ones at Batsto, Martha, Allaire, Speedwell, etc. I know they wanted to keep an eye on the place, but yeah, it must have been tough for them to sleep. I wonder...

    Question regarding "Calico"

Boy, I'm glad I didn't decide to drive through that puddle. I wasn't sure if the by-pass might be worse than the puddle. I found a piece of chain (probably used in dragging someone out of the puddle) and threw it into the puddle and it made a nice "ker plunk" which seemed to let me knw that it...

    Question regarding "Calico"

Ellis Adams I went to the area that I think was the one illustrated for the Ellis Adams farmhouse. It was late and I briefly looked around but didn't see any foundations. Did I miss it? It was a little driveway with a "culdesac at the end on top of a small hill.

    Friendship Friday

There are only a few bricks left, so I can't help but feel nervous about bringing this up. Too late now, I guess. In the past, the exposure here has quickly made scarce the remnants of such vunerable spots (eg Red Oak Grove) Let me know how the Administrator feels. I almost even took one brick...

    Friendship Friday

I will take a look through my photos. I don't think I had a camera with me when I found it, but not sure. It's too bad someone didn't respond prior to the Friendship trip.

Weird. I thought some people would jump on this. Maybe the Gate is already known?

    Friendship Friday

Hampton Gate is nearby. I could show some the true location of the former tavern. However this may be best for a select group since the evidence is very spare.

    Munion Field

There's some grass. The only thing intersting about it besides wondering why it was on maps, is that about 10 roads meet up there. It must have some history but it seemed devoid of evidence of former structures and everything else. It's easy to get lost out there too.

    Spring Afternoon Surprise

When I moved here in 1979, the whole area and most of the county was still mostll farmland and woods. It is amazing how much has happened here in the last 10 years. But there still are some good woods to roam through here, several old furnace sites too, that are truly forgotten. This is...

    Spring Afternoon Surprise

This story is very tame compared to Bob's amazing wilderness encounter, but it is really weird since I had physical contact with a wild deer for the first time today too. I was searching around squankum (near Howell) when I found an extened backyard far back off the road. I was (as always when...
