    Insect nest?

Yeah, I hear ya, it's a liner that was potted up last summer though, so most likely it cocooned itself on the property. It's 17 acres so there are probably a ton of them hiding. :)

    Mining In Jackson

That's kind of how I feel. I want to be all up in arms about it, but, really I don't know enough about it. And I think Rednek made me think of it in a different light.

    Insect nest?

I took a picture, but I couldn't cut it out of the tree because it is a new liner (Common Persimmon) and there wouldn't be anything left of the tree if I cut out the cocoon. Now I'll never know what comes out.

    Insect nest?

I found the same thing at work today. I will take a picture tomorrow. It doesn't have a hole in it. What do you think, should I open it?

    Found In My Back Yard

So far I have only done the metal detecting in my yard. Thanks for the heads up about a permit though!

    Found In My Back Yard

I totally didn't mean to ignore this, I haven't logged on in a couple days. I used the name Sarra because I shortened the word Sarracenia - the Latin name for Pitcher Plants. I am a total plant geek. Thats why I haven't logged on, work on the flower farm I work on has been getting busy!

    Found In My Back Yard

I borrowed a metal detector. Now I'm on the hunt for a railroad tie!

    Found In My Back Yard

Yeah, that map confirms, the railroad ran right along my back yard. I don't think it is a railroad spike either, just sort of hoping it was railroad related!

    Found In My Back Yard

That is sort of why I was asking. The back of my house butts up to the bike path. It's my understanding that the railroad was where the bike path is.

    Found In My Back Yard

I live in Ocean Gate, and maybe this isn't exactly Pine Barrens related, but maybe someone could tell me what they think I have found. These are just a few of the things I found this week while planting some Witch Hazel and Deciduous Hollies. I have also found intact Coke bottles and Michelob...

Aside from the occasional nice picture, easily memorizing Latin names is my only talent. Can't sing lyrics to songs I heard a thousand times, can't name movies or actors, can't tie cherry stems... But gimme a Latin name and its stuck in the gray forever.

Ah yes, common vs. Latin. Can't wait to go back to work and struggle with people who want powderpuff bushes or beach grass. A jonquil to my grandma is a daffodil to my mom and narcissus to me.

Thank You! Believe it or not that was just a lucky shot taken at Wells Mills Park, Waretown.
