    Howardsville

Packing operation as far as I know. There are some old foundations, bits of pipe, and a truck or tractor chassis out in the woods. If you walk that large field you can find bits of pottery.

    High Crossing never disappoints

Geez, a stock mall-crawling Explorer. I think Dad is getting a big towing bill.

Man Goes Missing During Hunting Trip

Better for the environment if he moulders in situ anyway. From dust to dust, so they say.

    Nor'easter

That acorn would be a mighty oak by the time you managed to create an account on healthcare.gov.

    Nor'easter

That much? Doesn't seem like a drenching is imminent up here. Sort of gray and damp, but not much water falling.

    Hello all, new here...

Welcome KDOG. If you like the woods and history of South Jersey then this is the place to be.

    New Jersey State Atlas Topos

I wish it was faster. Zooming is pretty painful, but all in all it's a nice resource.

    Morning Hike

Well, when everything else around is 14-18' ASL then 205' ASL is pretty prominent. :). I think if you look at a topo it's pretty clear that you were looking at Arneys and probably that hill to the east at Juliustown. I suspect that the view just fooled you into thinking the distance was much...

    New Jersey State Atlas Topos

I didn't even know this site existed. Seems pretty useful. http://njstateatlas.com/topo/

    Morning Hike

It's a great view from the top of the tower. When I brought my girls there a few years back a young guy was on watch and he invited us up. It was similarly clear and we had a similar view. Unfortunately the view of the ground below was not as attractive. What was the condition of the site when...

    The Three Pickers

Started watching this awesome video last night. It's a one-hour tribute concert featuring Earl Scruggs on banjo, Doc Watson on the guitar, and Ricky Scaggs on mandolin. Just amazing stuff.

    Music for the day

Another one by GBS. Bob Hallet rips up the fiddle on "Charley Horse."

    Oswego Lake Has Moved

Lake Broyhill is one of my favorite swimming holes... it's a little shallow, though.

    The Road to Howardsville

Nice pics. Haven't been up there in a couple of years. Last time I walked that field a little bit and found some pottery shards, brick fragments, and various other reminders of former occupation.

    Out Seeing Stuff

I did, but I was _extremely_ gentle. Not to pose him, per se. He just had this irrational desire to get into the brush before I could get a nice full-length shot.

It's not just the mudholes that can get you...

    Sundays are usually good, too.

It's not just the mudholes that can get you...

The main ones I am thinking of are mostly off of Mountain Rd., behind Walpack, in the Stokes State Forest. Let me know when you guys have a free Saturday and we'll plan something. I like to get up there every year when the leaves start to turn, but we don't have to wait that long.

It's not just the mudholes that can get you...

Accessibility is in the eye of the beholder :). We should get together some Saturday and I'll take you up there and show you some of them. Basically old county roads, turned into forest service roads, now turned into gullies by Irene and Sandy. Toughest terrain I've driven in NJ. Most of them...

    Out Seeing Stuff

This happens to me a lot with impromptu trips. Since I have no prep, and usually minimal advance warning, I end up going to Martha :).
