Cranberry Fest and Batsto Country Living Fair

Have fun, just remember, don't wear your Sunday shoes!

Cranberry Fest and Batsto Country Living Fair

Got there around 1:30 this afternoon and it was raining fairly steady. All the dirt roads on the site were pretty muddy. Saw a lot of long faces on the vendors. A few were already packing it in and some that I spoke to said if the weather was the same tomorrow, they wouldn't be back on Sunday...

Cranberry Fest and Batsto Country Living Fair

Disappointing. We had a caravan of about 12 people (mostly children) going this year. It's a yearly event we all look forward to attending. I think I'm going to swing over there today anyway. I'll report back and let everybody know how many vendors and people are there this year.

    Batona Trail

I kinda feel the same way. I mean, I'll admit that I'm not the most handsome man in the world, but nobody has ever mistaken me for a deer. Now if they had a wolf season out there I'd be a little more worried.

    Batona Trail

I concur on the chiggers. If you can hold off for just a few more weeks and wait until after we get a hard freeze, the chiggers will be gone. I'm on the Batona Trail 30-40 times a year. Excluding deer week in December, I really don't see all that many hunters out there. I only wear an orange...

Public service announcement for heterosexual males

Is it possible that there's actually nothing unusual about the crosswicks scenic overlook; you guys just had the misfortune of stopping by on a day when a Lacrosse team was there?:clint::mrgreen:

Batona Trail or Batsto river Road hike?

ChrisL, the trail/dirt road that parallels the Batsto river from Atsion to Batsto is marked with yellow blazes. If my memory serves me correctly, the yellow trail from Atsion to Batsto is 9 miles long. If you start at Atsion and head south towards Batsto, approximately 4-5 miles down the yellow...

    Camp food recipes

I know some of those recipes seem like they contain an elaborate amount of ingredients, but I make 5-10 servings of each meal at a time and I vacuum pack them so they'll easily stay good for a year or two. I dehydrate all of my own vegetables and the other ingredients are fairly easy to find...

    Jersey Devil Encounters?

Omega, my comment was not meant as a personal insult to you. My apologies if that's the way it came across. I have hiked thousands of miles through the pines during daylight hours, hundreds of miles after dark, and camped overnight in various places out there, and I've never seen anything...

    Decoy Show

I got there around 3:30pm Saturday. All the food vendors, save one, were already closed. It wasn't very crowded and I can't imagine the vendors did very well. I didn't see anybody walking out of there with decoys or any substantial purchases.

    Camp food recipes

Before I hiked the Appalachian Trail I tested over 100 recipes for dinner and breakfast and chose what I thought were the best ones. Each recipe had to be non-perishable, weigh no more than 12 oz for a supper meal, and only need a minimal amount of fuel to cook. The only ingredients I had to...

    Haunted Hammonton Hotel

I did some work in that hotel when they renovated it. That wasn't a ghost or a demon you saw, that was the owners wife!:jeffd:

    Jersey Devil Encounters?

I would like to talk to anybody who's seen the Jersey Devil in the pines too and ask them to please stop throwing their whisky bottles on the ground out there.

Apple Pie Hill Tower Smashed Again

I hike through Apple Pie Hill probably 15-20 times a year and I would really hate to see the fire tower closed down because it's a nice place to stop and have lunch and enjoy the view. I think the #1 attraction to vandals is the apparent thrill they get by throwing some object off of the top...

    Hiking/Kayaking trip on Mullica&Batona-weekend sept. 19

Piney Boy, I'm going to have to work this weekend to meet a customer's deadline, so I won't be able to join your group at Lower Forge on the 19th. Hope you guys have a blast! Looks like you're going to catch some nice autumn weather. I hiked through Lower Forge campground about a week...

    Pinelands-Friendly Yard and Garden Fair

Hey, thanks for posting this! I want to go to this event and had totally forgotten it was being held this Saturday. I purchased some native plants at the PPA event held in the spring and the flowers all did great. Now all my neighbors want to plant them in their gardens.

    Hiking/Kayaking trip on Mullica&Batona-weekend sept. 19

If my schedule permits it, I'll try and hook up with you guys at Lower Forge. I both kayak and hike, but I avoid the Batona Trail until we get some frost. I would most likely start at Batsto and hike the yellow trail (dirt road) that runs along Batsto lake/river north to the green trail. Then...

    BAck TO NAture

Hi AoCnG, I hike the Batona Trail end to end about 8 times a year. Everybody has a different tolerance level for exposing themselves to ticks and chiggers. I have had Lyme Disease and I have also been covered from the waist down with chigger bites a few times, so my tolerance is pretty low...
