possible change in our weather pattern?

I'm not a climatologist, or any kind of scientist. What I have read concerning the effects of increased carbon emissions on the atmosphere seems rational to me, and I have no problem believing the mechanisms function as described. However, there are other causes of climate change, and I...

    Today's trip - 1/25/09

Great pictures, Hawkin. That Eastern Bluebird is much different in appearance from what I remember being the Bluebirds of my youth in Indiana. They seemed larger and less round-headed. Or perhaps I am thinking of a Bluejay.

First Ride on the Camden and Atlantic Railroad

Fascinating stuff, Jerseyman. Thanks for posting it. Was the dining room of the hotel really 350 feet long?

    Rt. 70 Road Trip

And Rhode Islanders call them grinders, one of which you might order with a "cabinet" (milk shake). I think they turn into "subs" again out in the midwest. I always wondered about the Red Top and Green Top, as I drove by, whether they were the result of a family feud. Only half-kidding.

    Burlington Island and Jessup's Grove

Incredible pics of the island and environs, Jerseyman! Just fascinating. In that shot of the throngs on the pier, the smaller pier next to it has an interesting shape. Looks like it got away from them a little bit.

    Anyone interested in seismology?

That place is worth keeping an eye on for sure. If it pulled a Mt. Saint Helens-style pressure release we'd be in for big trouble.

    Iona Gun Club

Outside the Geneva convention, Bob, I don't think I can do that. But I think you would find wide agreement with my position among military folks, and a ton of historical precedent. I don't believe in targeting non-combatants, but nor can you allow the enemy to use them to tactical, and...

    Iona Gun Club

I don't like it any more than you do, but the answer is yes. 100,000 civilians died in Dresden. Tens of thousands in London. 3000+ in New York. Wars occur between nations, not just armies. I would love to hear some alternative idea of what the Israelis should do, but their critics never seem to...

    Cumberland County Exploring

Wow, excellent pics and report James. I've never been down there as it is a little further south than I usually reach. I'll have to amend that soon.

    Iona Gun Club

I think the laws of war have been clear for a long time: if the enemy uses a place as a refuge from which to launch attacks, that place is a legitimate target. From my personal perspective, Hamas uses places like Mosques, and the homes of civilians, precisely because they know we'll get worked...

Scouting the Skit, A PBX Hike

Great pics, Guy. Looks like you all had a perfect day for it. With respect to the machinery parts: my thought on seeing the first pic was that it was a cover or fairing for a power take-off or some other powered belt and pulley/chain arrangement. The second piece... some sort of cast housing...

    Merry Christmas !

What memories! My brother and I used to be able to occupy ourselves for an entire summer day with our Tonkas. My kids curl up in a fetal position if the Internet goes down.

What is your favorite photo editing software?

I use Photoshop Elements, which has _almost_ everything CS does for about 1/5 the price. Gimp is powerful, but I have heard the interface is a bit clumsy.

Or a Broadwing. Kind of hard to tell with the colors overexposed as they are. Certainly a raptor of some kind.
