Framed Pieces of Wreckage of Emilio Carranza's Plane

For some types of artifacts, like coins, there are "governing" or recognized authorities who might issue a COA. For the most part, though, what a COA represents is a guarantee by the seller that you will be reimbursed if the artifact proves to be a fake. Wallberg and one of the appraisers on AR...

Framed Pieces of Wreckage of Emilio Carranza's Plane

Well, there might be, but your first question is certainly valid. The way something like this builds authenticity is through a succession of knowlegeable buyers accepting the provenance. If it were ever sold by an auction house they might do their own work up on it too.

It's been kind of hard to keep her a secret, given the amount of food she eats... oh, and the chewed-up living room furniture.

That's it! Thanks :). I read them, but it really didn't register.

There were no "posted" signs on the field, Jeff. There were small "Safety Area" notices tacked up here and there... should have grabbed a shot of one. I didn't pay particular attention to them, but I think it had something to do with keeping ATVs off.

Bitten by a dog (DOG BITE PHOTO)

LIP, you have a clear cause of action against the owner if you were not on his or her property. Speak to a personal injury attourney. You're due medical expenses at least. I'm not a litigious person, but there are times when tort is the right tool, and this sounds like one of them.

Bitten by a dog (DOG BITE PHOTO)

I would put it down, to be honest. If it will do that to a grown man walking away from it, then it will attack a child with perhaps a much more serious outcome. There are programs for dangerous dogs, but not many, and it's probably not worth it in this guy's case.

Bitten by a dog (DOG BITE PHOTO)

That's the thing to do. I've run into highly aggressive dogs on several occasions (never in the pines yet), and the last thing you want to do is show any level of intimidation. If they come at me I kick them in the head. I know a guy out in the midwest who works for the USPS, and he carries a...

    Birch Trees

One thing I know is that a lot of them up here seem to have some strange problem. Over in the woods to the east of my house most of the white birches, which seem fairly young (say 5-8" diameter) have bent over in an arc until their crowns are almost touching the ground. I've been rather curious...

Van Note Camp and Mount Misery Bogs

Very cool, Ben. Thanks for the report. Irks me that I missed that yesterday when I was in the Buckingham area. Gives me a reason to go back :).

Why can't I lose this gut?

Some really excellent advice on this thread. I've also struggled with getting thick around the middle for most of my life. Over the last three years I lost about 50 pounds, and then I've put a little of it back on. There are a few key things to keep in mind. Eat breakfast, don't eat after 7 PM...

I guess it's hard to tell the difference between a gun club and a private residence in the pines :). Thanks for the background info. I was pretty certain also that the ruins weren't on their property, but things went from "quiet cathedral of history" to "Cirque du basset hound" and I didn't...

    Whites Bog and Buckingham, 4-19-08

With the wife and kids on vacation for the week I decided to head south for some uninhibited exploring today... Unfortunately I ran smack into a wall of traffic ten miles long on the turnpike. I decided to get off at 8A and take 130, and that's when I realized that while I may know the roads...

Brush fire at Fort Dix brought under control

Thanks for answering my question of the day :). I was driving along 70 eastbound at about 3:00 PM heading for Lakehurst Rd. and there was acrid white smoke drifting across the highway. Didn't see any signs of emergency vehicles.

    Historic aerial photos

I'm not a huge fan of the click-n-drill nav method either, but it probably reflects the spotty coverage they currently have. When you start out looking at a map of the U.S., just letting you scroll in wouldn't be that useful.

One dead in Lacey dirt bike accident

We're all sorry for your loss, believe me. It is a public story, and people will discuss many aspects of it. The aspect most important to you, of course, is the personal one, and everybody will understand that.

    New version of Google Earth

Version 4.3 was released a day or two ago, and I just noticed it this evening. They revamped the nav controls, improved the rendering some, and the streaming seems a little smoother as well. Nothing dramatic. Anyway, it's available at earth.google.com.

    Historic aerial photos

Reasonable, but the watermarks are very distracting, and they don't really add to the IP protection. As you allude, the value is in the site tools not the imagery itself. If there's an option to register and have the watermarks removed that would be nice.
