    Murderer in the Pines !

Mail order? /shrug. Guess he can still use the telephone. I wouldn't mind owning some property in Nova Scotia myself. Someone above mentioned Philly with respect to Jersey and crime. The most recent stats I have seen showed NJ about 10th overall in terms of dangerous crime (thanks, Newark!)...

    Isn't that what a walker is? ;)

    metal fence post?

Interesting that the hole is only in one side, though. Could have been a hitching post, I suppose, that the ring fell out of. If it's a fence it surely is ornamental. Too short to be a functional fence.

He was on his way back in camo to invade!

    Murderer in the Pines !

No, of course not. I was referring to double murderers.

    Ice Road Truckers

You also have to understand how truly vast Canada's northlands are, and how nearly unpopulated. Mining sites are invisible pinpricks in a soggy green carpet that stretches more than 3000 miles east to west, and nearly 1000 north to south. Canada has a more conservation-inclined society and...

It's a mistake, imo, to fixate on Bin Laden. Bush did when it was convenient, and that was a mistake too. He allowed the world to think the response was a police action at the same time that he was preparing strategic change-the-landscape options. He should have been making that case all along.

    Murderer in the Pines !

You have to wonder what the hell a double murderer is doing in a place like Ancora. I used to deliver med supplies there back in the 80's, and at least then you could walk away from that place pretty easily. Security was almost non-existent. I don't understand the innate urge some have to try...

    Ice Road Truckers

Well, I think the majority of the diamonds mined in the world are for industrial use, by a very large margin. People open up wildernesss and make it serve their needs, and if they didn't none of us would be here. At some point you conserve what you have left, but Canada has far more...

    Are the bugs horrible overnight.

That unpaved road might have been Old Mine Rd., which is called River Rd. in some places. Were you right alongside the river, with a set of old RR tracks between you and the water? It's a wonderful drive that follows what might be the first long road built in the U.S. (by Quakers, to transport...

I should have sprayed my bag with permethrin!

Nope, no chiggers up here, nor a quarter as many ticks either. I think its that specific ecology in the barrens that provides them such a great habitat. Plus the truth is no "mountain" in Northern NJ is far from developed land, so there are all sorts of effects from spraying and other control...

    Are the bugs horrible overnight.

Are you allowed to camp overnight in the Wharton? I thought that was allowed only at designated sites by permit. It would stink to get rousted out by rangers at 3 AM or something.

    "Piggyback" mortgages?

Oh no, not at all I agree. Hopefully the government will step in and help the deserving. It's unfortunate, and harsh economic reality. What I find interesting is that the auctions for these foreclosed homes are busy. We may see a big upsurge in rentals for awhile. $50 or even $100 billon in lost...

    "Piggyback" mortgages?

Economists need to get on TV too. ;) Depending on the area you live in I wouldn't expect a lot of devaluation. I could be wrong, but I think the economy can more than absorb the lending issues. We're lucky in that we put a lot down and just have a straight-up low-risk loan. But as my Dad...

Maybe try a little soak in Epsom salts then.

    Wescoat Bogs

If it was one of those guys who go "mudding" back there and tear up the bogs, I hope his truck becomes an archaelogical artifact. Nice pics. That's a muddy golden :).

Mullica River Down by the Forks

We were on the lake and river above Harrisville on Saturday and the water level seemed quite high to me.

Striclty speaking NG still owns that copyright, and it covers the right to display the work, so you would be infringing. The people selling the magazines on eBay have specific rights to do that under copyright law, as long as what they are selling is an original authorized version of the work...

Oct 28 9:45 6th annual PINE BARRENS 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLEANUP

Thanks for the info guys, and great pics PineBarrensJeepster. Nice Rubi, too! I need to get my hands on a trailer like that. I think this whole thing is just fantastic. It's such a downer to see trash out in the woods. Not only does this get things a little cleaner, but its a great example...
