    Retirement Has Arrived

I am proud to say that I have never fallen victim to the Honey-Do List. I will never be a handyman, but I do like to do vehicle maintenance. (oil and brakes) After 47 years together, my wife gave up on me a long time ago with having me do anything around the house ;)

    Retirement Has Arrived

Congratulations Guy !!! Very good to hear and I know you will enjoy every minute. I can't imagine getting bored in retirement. I am easily amused and can find wonderment in simple things that are found in the woods and on the water. Enjoy!!

And of course, there's this song.

    Music for the day

David Bowie was amazingly talented. One of my favorites. It starts slow and keeps rolling up.

A General Sherman Cedar and Some Changes

I've noticed this tree many times in my 40 years living in here Pestletown. Yesterday, while taking my gun for a walk, I photographed it for the first time. It is located in an area that was carved into active bogs as early as 1870 on the Vermuele maps. Hard to say when the bog operations ceased...

    I don't want to live in a world without Boyd's Maps. :(

NJ Fallow Deer Season Starts NOW!

I think that you would certainly recognize a Fallow Deer, especially a male with the spots and antler palmation.

NJ Fallow Deer Season Starts NOW!

Guy: "The word “fallow” derives from the Old English fealu, meaning 'brownish-yellow" (taken from the article pasted below) The Fallow Deer has a very long and interesting history, having been distributed around the world by man for multiple purposes. I do know that they are popular on game...

NJ Fallow Deer Season Starts NOW!

Me neither. I'm involved in several sportsmen's organizations and I would think I would have at least heard a rumor or two.

NJ Fallow Deer Season Starts NOW!

I received this bulletin yesterday from a member of the NJ Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs who is also a retired Game Warden and the current Chairman of the NJ Fish and Game Council. This will only be in effect in DMZ 23 and DMZ 24 for the regular deer seasons, Hunters must have proper...

    Deer Season

I am indeed remiss, but I did mention the start of 6-day a few times in my Access Map-related posts over the last week or so.. :)

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

I was successful once again in the beaver and otter permit lottery this year and was I awarded both a beaver and an otter permit. The season opens on the day after Christmas so I did some preliminary trap line scouting in Wharton this afternoon to prepare. While traveling in my truck and on...

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

A quote from NJDEP Commissioner Shawn LaTourette, taken from the November 29, 2024 article on NJ.Com as posted here: ...."The survey slashes about 121 miles worth of roads found to range from property boundary lines to hiking trails. In hearings leading up to the new map, NJDEP Commissioner...

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

That's why I said Boot Hill should open a candy store. If they capitulate, they won't be able to go beyond the end of the active bogs.

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

The NJDEP video in post #8 is nauseating.

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

Boot Hill Gun Club might as well open a candy store. This is horrible. The so-called hunting roads, indicated by a dotted line, are mostly lumped up way to the east. Only swamp Road is indicated as a special hunting road in the western part of Wharton. Six-Day is going to be interesting.

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

This has to be a bad dream. With no substantive communication since the unveiling of all of the potential Wharton Visitor Maps, the NJDEP dropped this bomb today. With only a 2 minute glance at the map I can see my life in the Wharton woods will be changing dramatically. Enforcement starts...

More than likely the Boot Hill guys baiting for 6-Day to keep the deer in localized pockets. 6-Day opens December 9.

    Near Wescoat Bog Today

If I was a wise ass, I would sat that Wescoat has an "a" and one less "t". :D Seriously, the Pleasant Mills cemetery offers an interesting, and possibly meaningless, fact to ponder. There are only (4) Wescotts buried in the cemetery but there are (79) Wescoats. The Wescoat name seems more...
