    Frogs at Friendship Bogs

Since this thread is about frogs and since we live in (just) the Pines: last night we were almost deafened by the ruckus from the wet retention pond across the road: 2 or more bullfrogs, zillion northern gray tree frogs, eastern spadefoot toads, green frogs.

    Standing Cypress

This is located on the road from Rte 49 down to Port Elizabeth where it crosses a sand railroad, SE corner of the intersection. The plants are/were spectacularly red flowered and grew on a bank between the flat area of the tracks and the bordering woods. I think I was told that the area was a RR...

    Standing Cypress

Al, I really don't know. We drove a lot of the roads in and around the park, saw only one stand of Atlantic White Cedar (none really thick trunked but a bunch of really tall, skinny ones). Didn't see any cypress but not to say there isn't any. Would take tromping into the woods to find out...

    Standing Cypress

Ro and I were on our way to Belleplain State Forest (first time there) so we stopped at the intersection of CR 646 and the RR. The bank where the deep red plants were seen has been gouged and roughed with gravel dumped on it. Hope the plants (Impmopsis rubra) survive.

    Terns at Parker Preserve

Last evening when Ro & I went down to flag one of our new test sites, we saw three small white terns hunting over the first bog south of North Gate. They were there for over a half hour. I can't remember seeing terns over fresh water in the Pines before. No binoculars with us so species...

The Pink is Up !!!! ....Well....Almost.

I used to help Paul Schubert of the Philadelphia Botanical Club monitor some sites for the USDA in Camden County. Here's an excerpt from his recent e-mail to me: "... David and I monitored Big Timber Creek last year, where it took us awhile to even find that population. You will remember that...

    Here comes the rain

Our rain gauge shows 6 inches of rain since morning Wednesday. According to news article, that's equal to what Pensacola FL got in one hour (!) and Los Angeles got all last year.

    Where is this?

That looks a lot like a powerline area the Phila Botanical Club visited down near Peck's Corner on Rte 49.
