    The MAP is back

Hi Russ. Thanks for the clarification. Indeed, this has been rehashed many times. Pardon me if you've detailed this before on this forum, but what exactly is the plan that you'd like to see implemented? Most here would agree that a balance needs to be struck between recreation and preservation.

    Carranza Road Property For Sale

Fun idea, my diesel-burning friend. I paid that hill a visit once. Lots of ironstone, just like the other nearby hills. Nothing around it suggests sufficient quarrying to explain its existence. This is a natural formation.

    The MAP is back

Russell, I thought your position was more nuanced than this.

    Raised trail?

OK, so I wouldn't bother trying to match up that map with the mystery berm.

    Raised trail?

Isn't this a generic diagram of a cranberry bog? Not a specific place?

    Sawmill Locations

OK, there appears to have been at least two locations called "Schenck's Mill". The one I've been describing was on one of the branches of Kettle Creek (formerly, Fishing Creek). The other was about 4 miles downstream from Ridgway's Mill on the North Branch of Tom's River.

    Sawmill Locations

Correction: In 1761, it was referred to as E. Applegate's "old saw mill". He constructed the mill in 1740.

Longacoming was located upstream from the mill. Where was that?

    Sawmill Locations

Salter says that Schenck's Mill on a branch of Kettle Creek was formerly Ebenezer Applegate's sawmill. The mill was a bit downstream of Coward's Ford (also known as Deer Ford). Any idea where that ford was?

    Sawmill Locations

OK, I don't see Schenck's Mill Line Rd trending towards that area. Salter' History of Monmouth and Ocean Counties describes Abraham and Paul Schenck's sawmill as being located 4 miles from the bay. Elsewhere, it mentions Schenck's Mill as being on a branch of Kettle Creek. Whether or not they...
